A philosophy of wellness establishes a lifestyle to help people become more satisfied, productive, and happy by making conscious choices in order to live a more satisfying lifestyle. Due to the diversity of definitions of wellness, this approach has been used to address a variety of social, medical and biological illness such as substance abuse, mental illness, pain management, disease, disabilities and eating disorders. As people continue to become more health conscious, wellness programs and approaches will continue to find new applications in society. Patient care assistants should recognize the importance of wellness when working with patients and work to incorporate the dimensions of wellness in the treatment plan. This course discusses how wellness approaches are being used in a variety of settings, the dimensions of wellness, and how to implement wellness programs in specific populations.
