A philosophy of wellness focuses on working with patients to establish a lifestyle that seeks to increase satisfaction, productivity, and happiness through making conscious choices in order to live a more satisfying lifestyle. The healthy habits cultivated within the wellness philosophy helps individuals avoid self-destructive behaviors such as substance abuse, toxic relationships, and environments, while encouraging healthy habits including eating a healthy diet, exercise, relaxation, and rest. Due to the diversity of wellness, this approach has been used to address a variety of social, medical and biological illness such as substance abuse, mental illness, pain management, disease, disabilities and eating disorders. Mental health technicians can utilize concepts of a wellness approach when working directly with patients. This course explores the concept of wellness and how professionals can use a wellness approach to promote and address better living.
