HIV and AIDS: Prevention for Patient Care Assistants training course

Patient care assistants have an increased risk for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens in their daily work with patients. These bloodborne pathogens include hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Exposures can occur through needlesticks or cuts from other sharp instruments contaminated with an infected patient's blood as well as through contact of the eye, nose, mouth, or skin with a patient's blood. This course discusses the risks for exposure to HIV, what to do after an accidental HIV exposure, and how to use universal precautions to prevent bloodborne pathogen exposure.
