Death is a natural process that all living beings experience. Direct Support Professionals will most likely see many patients, clients, and residents die over the course of their career. Some of these deaths will be sudden and unexpected, while others may occur after prolonged illnesses. The Direct Support Professional gives dying patients’ regular care that helps them through this difficult time in a way that gives a better quality of life and helps the patient come to terms with their own death. This treatment even extends beyond death when the Direct Support Professional gives postmortem care. This course will teach current and future Direct Support Professionals about the process of death and how to care for dying patients.
