To improve patient outcomes, healthcare organizations have implemented quality improvement measures to increase care coordination, patient safety, and preventive services. Despite these efforts to improve patient experiences, critical incidents continue to be a significant occurrence in the medical field. Patient care assistants are involved in recognizing and reporting critical incidents that may occur with individuals in their care. This course will provide an overview of critical incident reporting including the circumstances when incident reports should be filled out. This course will also discuss the necessity of filling out critical incident reports, barriers to compliance, and new methods to critical incident reporting.
