Consumer Rights and Responsibilities are the rules that both healthcare providers and those receiving treatment must follow and expect. Consumer rights are the fundamental rules that a hospital, skilled care facility, nursing home, home care agency, or other healthcare facility must follow and that clients, patients, or residents are entitled to receive. Responsibilities are the obligations that clients, patients, or residents have towards their healthcare providers. These rights and responsibilities are set by law as well as by ethical standards within the industry. Direct Support Professionals have a duty to both follow these rules and protect their clients or patient’s rights from being violated by others.
