Communicating with the Hearing Impaired for Mental Health Technicians training course

Strong communication skills are critical for professionals working in healthcare settings, and it is particularly important for mental health technicians as they interact with a variety of individuals daily presenting with many communication challenges. Often, the effects of aging, illness, and disabilities create barriers to effective communication, especially when patients lose some or all ability to hear the spoken word. Paying attention to another’s communication needs is one of the most important duties of the mental health technicians and can significantly impact treatment outcomes. This course will discuss the communication process, discuss how hearing loss can be a barrier to communication, and how healthcare professionals can overcome those barriers.
